When deciding to volunteer in Africa I was stuck for choice with so many great organisations offering volunteering opportunities. With regards my decision making it came down to the ethos of the organisation, type of experience I wanted and overall, a gut feeling. Looking back now I am so glad I went with my gut.

It is hard to believe that both sentences refer to the same place. The appeal of volunteering for most people comes from being able to use their skills to make a difference and seeing that happen.
This May saw the start of our feeding programme for hungry children at the nursery in Malawi, at which volunteers assist with preschool education. It is the first time I have ever heard complete silence from the children, as they sat in anticipation on the first day we provided food!
On Friday of last week the container, carrying 30 Viglen desktop computers and monitors donated by Solefield School in Sevenoaks, arrived safely in Malawi. The computers were unloaded at Malosa in southern Malawi, following a 12-week journey from Birmingham via Mozambique and transported by our project co-ordinators to Mangochi.
I have just returned from Malawi where we have received the first volunteers at our new community volunteer programmes in Mangochi and the projects have got off to a great start and been warmly received by the local community.
